Piazza Don Gallo – Genova
From the evening of December 28, Piazza Don Gallo, in the historic center of Genoa, is illuminated thanks to the permanent artistic installation commissioned by the municipal administration. This installation has been designed by Condiviso, thanks to the creativity and expertise of the lighting designer Stefania Toro and created thanks to the contribution of some designers and lighting professionals, following a participatory planning process that involved the residents.
The installation consists of a seat in the center of Piazza Don Gallo which, thanks to perforated walls, projects multilingual content onto the square, a large projection on the facade of the building on the east side and light connections on the accesses from Via Lomellini and via del Campo.
This work intends to enhance the square from a scenographic point of view and ideally connects it with the main arteries of the historic center. It brings out its founding values – such as respect and a sense of community – and underlines the importance of the vegetation for the square (vegetation desired and cared for by the inhabitants), respecting the needs of the residents and complementing the current public lighting.
The Piazza Don Gallo project is part of a larger project conceived in different squares in the historic center, Lighting for Genoa, where lighting design becomes a tool for enhancing the architectural heritage and urban fabric of the city.
17 customized projectors were used for the scenographic lighting of the square, for a total energy consumption of 2.7 KW, less than the consumption of an apartment.
